A friend of mine had called me to help rescue a stray cat that was hanging around her office building. I was reluctant at first but came to pick her up. She was a tiny little thing and very friendly for a stray. She was easy to lure into the crate with a few treats. And just like that, we were off to the vet.
The vet estimated she was about 6-8 months old. Other than a few fleas and worms she was in good health. She was treated and I brought her back home. My friend had been calling her Jade because of her big green eyes and it suited her well.
She got along well with my two boys but she seemed to prefer Jax.
Initially the vet told me she was not pregnant, but in fact she was. I had brought her back to get fixed and they called me with the news shortly after I left. The same day I found out was the day the kittens were born.
She had given birth to four, but three survived. It was a bit sad but common in cats.
The whole thing was a bit overwhelming and unexpected. The last thing on my mind was getting another cat. But my fathers side of the family seems to have an affinity for rescuing stays. My grandfather fed several strays in Milwaukee, my father fed stays in our first house, and my parents last two cats literally showed up on their doorstep.
So here we all are. These little kittens getting the best possible start in life.
